Whenever I see such videos it takes me RIGHT back to my first hagwon hell experience! I even get that horrible feeling in my stomach as if I were the guy teaching. Oh, I loved my kindergarten kids, but that was mostly because I saw them 5 days a week, 4 hours a day for nearly 12 months. I saw them grow in so many ways and could not help feeling lots of pride when they graduated.
BUT, those elementary classes, and the silliness that went on....NOTHING compares to Korean hagwons.
I'm glad some people still work in hagwons! Just not me... |

"This is the way to teach English to Asian kids...the MC Hammer way." I hope he's joking... |

Hey trubadour,
Yeah, it's evident that kids can be hard to control (first and second videos)...let alone, inspire (the third video).
The fourth video with the music from Requiem for a Dream is pretty creative!
The fifth video - I have no idea what language they're speaking, but they're definitely not speaking French. (I speak French.) It sounded Arabic to me...
The sixth video - It doesn't look as if the teacher is hitting them that hard. I think the punishment was intended to embarrass the students and make an example of them for forgetting their textbooks rather than to physically hurt them. I'm not saying it's justified. Personally, I don't believe that teachers should be allowed to physically punish their students in any way, shape or form. But it's the Korean culture...my parents have told me horror stories about going to school in Korea back when they were kids. |
