Having lived in Japan for 3 years I became a fan of watching Japanese dramas, they have everything from food eating competition (food fight) to unusual detectives (Hero). Just wondering what are the good Korean dramas out there. I've seen Autumn story, which reminds me of a chinese/taiwanese drama in terms of style and production. Are there any thought-provoking series that are not necessarily based on solemn/pitiful themes?

A friend gave me these recommendations though I have no idea what they are :

Beautiful Days
My Fair Lady
My Love Patzzi
Sunlight Upon Me
Wish Upon A Star

I used to watch an older one on Arrirang. I don't know the name but the premise is that there is a married couple. The husband is cheating on his wife with a younger woman. So the woman decides to divorce the husband and take her two sons. The story is about her trails and tribulations in her quest to become a strong independent woman and mother. Which is made more difficult when her ex-husband tries to win her back. It was quite well done...

Sorry I don't know the name...

The best Korean drama of all time is over ten years old. The literal translation from the Korean title would be "Star of My Heart" and it starred Ahn Jae Wook, Cha In Pyo and Choi Jin Shil. But I don't know if you can still find it anywhere.

I love another Korean drama from over ten years ago- 모래시계 (The Sandglass/Hourglass). It's a drama which I think sucessfully combines the focus on relationships (love, friendship) of other dramas and historical content (modern history).

I also was surprisingly hooked on a more recent drama called "Ruler of Your Own World" (네 멋대로 해라). I thought the acting was really good.

Also enjoyable but not as deep: the historical drama Daejanggeum (LONG, though) and the amusing romantic comedy My Name is Kim Sam-soon.

Download Korean/Japanese/Thai drama and movie DVDs from www.asiandvdclub.org. Big files, but they are free and download reasonably quickly.
