Hi Guys,

My contract runs out on december 31st. It says 31st December on my ARC. I still have class on 31st so does that mean i must leave on the same day? or am i allowed to hang about in korea for a week or two?

If your ARC expires on Dec 31 you have 3 choices:

1) LEAVE Korea by midnight on that date.

2) Get an extension to your stay. The easiest way to do this is go to immigration with your outbound ticket in hand along with your ARC and passport. They will extend you until the date of your departure WITHOUT cost.

3) Over stay your period of sojourn, get delayed at the airport, fined (usually about 100k won) and have a black mark placed into your immigration file.

You are NOT extending an exit order. You cannot extend an exit order.

If you get a new job you get a visa run, new visa and new ARC.

They are EXTENDING your period of sojourn (extending your stay in Korea). You could also catch a latte night flight out of Korea on the 31st - return on the next flight back and not have to worry because you will enter on a tourist visa waiver stamp.

You are NOT being ordered to leave the country. It is a simple matter of your status of sojourn expiring. You have options.

An exit order is exactly that - an ORDER TO LEAVE THE COUNTRY and there are NO OPTIONS.

The short extension I mentioned above is FREE and has restrictions. It requires your departure ticket and is ONLY good until the date of the ticket.

You can also PAY for a contract extension if you want to remain at the same employer and continue working. This costs 30k won for the extension, 50k won for the re-entry permit (if you want one) and can be for 1-365 days duration.

In what appears to be your case, you are finishing your contract and leaving.

You will then return to begin a new job with a new employer.

The new job will require a new visa (hence the visa run and new ARC).

These are separate events and inspite of their proximity in time they are NOT connected to each other. End of one visa and application for another.

i think i almost got it

How about i goto immigration, they give me exit order of 30 days and i happen to find a new job within that 30 day period, how does that complicate things? because i ideally i like that to happen instead of me buying a ticket and going out again.

IF i cannot find job within that 30 day period, i wuld prob leave it at that and go to my home country

Why would they give you an exit order? Did you quit early? Did you get fired?

An exit order terminates your stay BEFORE the expiry of your ARC. No changes of status of sojourn, no extensions, no additions or change in employers.

If you want to stay beyond your expiry to complete your personal affairs you need an extension to your period of sojourn.

If you want a new job you will be getting a new visa and making a visa run.

What part of that do you not quite get?

My contract expires on 31st december, the same day my ARC expires. Now i called immigration today, and they told me that I must visit them before the 31st, in which case they will give me an exit order (because my ARC is expiring). I can stay up to 30 days, doing my own business.

I forgot to mention that i am not quitting early and I am not getting fired. My contract runs right up to 31st december, and I am simply not renewing it

Actually, the easiest way to extend your stay for 1-30 days past your ARC date is to do it online. I did it yesterday in about 10 minutes, and an hour later I got my permission and they emailed me a certificate to put in my passport.
Go to www.g4f.go.kr and sign up for an account, then log in and choose "E-application". Fill out the form for 'permission for extension of stay for departure of registered foreigner", attach a copy/scan of your outbound travel ticket, and submit.
You can check your status under "My E-application" and when it's approved, print out the receipt and certificate and you're finished.

The whole point of the online application is to bypass the in-person visit to the immigration office, so no, you won't need to go there in person after you file the online application.

And he also said i dont need to bring airline ticket, so he got me all confused
