Seriously how is this the world's most popuar game? I guess the low cost of playing the sport helps to an extent, but the game is still boring as hell!

Soccer is a game you play as a child and then you grow up and start playing real sports. Like curling!

Plus soccer players are some of the biggest pansies out there with their overdramatic acting every time another player even remotly touches them.

Soccer is for girls!

When will the rest of the world (primarily those silly Europeans) finally wake up and realize what North Americans have know for hundereds of years, that soccer is bull$hit?

I'm not a huge fan of any sport - a casual liker of rugby, soccer, tennis and football - but the reason soccer is the most popular game in the world is to do with (a) simplicity, (b) rivalries between countries and clubs, (c) it's a good way to express nationalism peacefully.

It's all subjective isn't it? I've lived in Britain and the US and hockey and baseball are by some distance the world's worst sporting atrocities, but that's just my crap opinion.

I also realize diving and cheating in soccer is deplorable, but there are a lot of tough players out there. Well, there were anyway - Roy Keane, Patrick Vierra, Miguel Nadal. Taking a tackle by these guys hurts. There are a lot of very serious, horrible injuries in the game too and it's become an almost non-contact sport like basketball as a result of said injuries.

I love playing soccer, but after the last World Cup I lost all interest in watching it. Games were basically decided on penalty kicks.

Soccer players might act like wimps, but it's an act. The true wusses are baseball players. The second it starts to rain they run like God is pissing down on them.

i can see the appeal of soccer. it is a dull sport to watch, unless you're into it for some of the strategy. the goals are just too few and far between.

but damn - think of the fact that some of those footbaow stars are raging pub-drunks but so few of them get above 150 pounds. someone's doing something right.

hint - it's not the complaining panty-waste with an internet connection and something to prove.

think of it - you could be watching baseball or hockey and trying to convince everyone that you're enjoying yourself.

I was never a big fan of any sports until I got into soccer a few years ago (post college). I've always been somewhat athletic, but just didn't care about them. I have to say though: soccer is damn fun to play. I enjoy watching it on TV as well, but I think that's just because I enjoy playing the sport. For instance, my dad likes watching golf on TV because he loves playing golf... I can't stand watching it, but I can understand why he does.

its cultural.. every north american i meet seems to hate football (soccer), but the game isn't played seriously there. for the same reason, i fail to understand why baseball is so popular in the usa.. it looks like the dullest game in the world from my view, but thats probably because i didn't grow up with it.

Sorry, it's hard to get used to calling 'soccer' 'football', but I suppose you all did have the rights to the name first.

You're right, it isn't played very seriously in NA... just look at the MLS for god's sake. Those guys look like children playing next to the EPL. I don't particularly care for baseball either, but if you accept the fact that the game takes forever and moves very slowly, it can sometimes be interesting to see.

Well, I'm American.

Baseball is boring. Soccer is interesting because they mostly PLAY. Football (like the Super Bowl on Sunday kind) is just plain boring because they always STOP playing. Hockey's fun cause they hit each other and draw blood.

You've got no argument from me about baseball. Baseball is the most boring game and it has no potential.

Soccer is a great game ruined by players who are just too perfect and don't take chances. I prefer watching women's soccer because the girls actually are more aggressive. Oh, and at the Women's U19 World Championship 2003 in Edmonton I accidentally saw into the Japanese team's locker room.

north american sports are the safest haven for closeted homosexuality since the catholic church.

history has proven this.
