Strange story about that book.

I lent it to a friend of mine and shortly after he died. I'm not kidding.

And I just can't go to his wife now and ask for it back. It would be too strange.

A Million Little Pieces - Do you recall all the controversy surrounding James Frey when it was discovered that his memoirs were in large part fabricated? Well, back in 2002 when I was working as a talent manager, I was privy to a conversation between James and his literary manager (who worked with me) while James was still doing rewrites. Basically, this is what went down: his manager told him that in order to secure a publisher, they would have to shop the book as a nonfictional account. That's right. Originally, James had written the novel as a fictional account; he had drawn on experiences from his own life while writing it, but he had never intended it to be publishedas his own memoirs. However, by the time his manager, editor and publisher got done with his work, it was a nonfiction novel and not a work of fiction anymore! Poor James got slammed by Oprah and had his name dragged through the mud in the press...but it was never his idea to sell the book as his memoirs!

I speak French, too. And if you make an effort with the language, you'll discover that Parisians can be pretty cool despite their reputation. I liked London, but I wasn't too crazy about the Londoners to be quite honest. They were a bit...cool. And no, I don't mean cool as in how we once thought fluorescent shirts and jellie shoes were cool. Cool
