Does anyone know of a good recruiter? I'm thinking about coming over next year and I don't want to get stuck in a bad contract. Also, how specific can I get when looking for a position?
Thanks, |

I've suggested that people use michael duffy at www.duffrecruiting.com. Make sure you ask the right questions and do the proper research before you sign the labor contract.
Talk to more than one of the foreign staff and ask pointed and specific questions when the boss is not listening.
1 ) What are the hours? (start time / stop time / breaks).
2 ) How many classes per day, week, month? Not hour many hours per month. 30 classroom hours can mean anything from 1350 -1800 minutes per week standing in front of the class. The difference can be up to 7.5 hours in front of the class each week.
3 ) Do they always pay on time?
4 ) Do they really pay overtime or avoid it with creative book keeping? Yes = Red Flag
5 ) Do you get credit for classes on the national holidays or do you get the day off but still have to work your 120 hours before you get overtime?
6 ) Do they have national medical (with the little booklet)? No = Red Flag
7 ) Do they pay into pension? No = Red Flag
8 ) What about the holidays? 10 or more working days? (legal requirement here) No = Red Flag
9 ) When and how do you get your holidays?
10 ) What extra stuff do you really have to do - mentioned or not in the contract.
11 ) Is the school having financial troubles? Yes = Don't work there
12 ) Does the employer have a history of firing employees for the sole purpose of not providing severance pay, last one (1) - (3) working months salary, and a plane ticket home? Yes = Red Flag
13 ) What are the behaviors of the students towards ALL teachers like in and outside of the classroom?
14 ) Do they make additional deductions from your monthly pay not mentioned in your contract? Yes = Red Flag
15 ) Then consider the quality of life issues - things that are important to you that aren't mentioned here (housing, furnishings, bathroom, access to recreational facilities, shopping, banking).

| Just email every single recruier that you can find and ALWAYS remember that its the school that's paying them not you so they'll be looking out for the interests of the school, not yours. |

Good advice so far, I will add that you should never trust the recruiter or the school because there is bound to be miscommunication during the process. Happens to everyone. Do a search, many posts on this topic. BoL to you.

Raymond Cho at Jun Recruiting was my latest recruiter he's really good. He'd call me stateside at least once a week or so to check up on everything before I came over. Now I get an email status update about once every 3 months or so.

Hmm...
This poster looks awfully similar to ALABAMAMAN who always pimps Rowan Hall and ESL Planet.

| i was thinking about starting a thread called "ATTN: Recruiters" with little hints to try and make them a little more professional. my damn inbox has loads of recruiter emails that are total crap from start to finish. one calls my boyfriend 'Ryan' even though his name doesn't even include those letters. at least two (that we actually sent pics and CVs to) confused our sexes (that made me feel real good). none of them are without spelling/grammar flaws that could be corrected with a simple spell-check application. and seriously-- how can you pass yourself off as anything but a hack working out of your basement (or rooftop, i suppose, since i don't think Koreans have basements) if you use a hotmail address? |
