Anyone looking to work at Changwon National University in the future should think about another school. Recently the Korean co-ordinator of the Language Education Center ensured that one of its most loyal teachers was screwed out of 800,000 won upon departure. This man, named Kim Dong Hwan expertly stole money from a foreigner and of course gets away with it. In 2003 this is just plain unacceptable. From a university its absolutely disgusting. Please drop Mr.Kim an email at;

[email protected]

Let him know his actions will not go unseen and will be with him for as long as he is working in this industry. In Korea most teachers and expats are unable to use any resemblance of a just legal system to settle monetary cases such as this. However many teachers and schools use this forum to recruit and gain information. Ensuring that every crime (stealing is a crime after all) is recorded and shown for all to see will enable all foreigners to fight back, by having this deviants lose face and deal with shame.

Shame on you Kim Dong Hwan!
You cast shame on Changwon National Unversity!
You cast shame on all Koreans!

I'm also curious about the details. Less invective, more explanation, please!

Also, was the person who was ripped off you?

When the past and present meet, it's often ugly.

Also, "semblance" would have been a better choice than "resemblance".

At the end of the summer semester there is a break before the next term by about 2 weeks. Teachers are free to travel at this time. The teacher had completed his courses by mid August. He booked his flight shortly afterwards. Most teachers had left for there vacation. Mr. Kim cunningly cut his August pay short, after his flight was booked, stating that since he was not going to be there the whole month he did not deserve a full months pay. Had he stayed in Changwon for two weeks twiddling his thumbs he would have been paid, had he not told people he was leaving he would have been paid. Realistically no teacher is, was, or will be expected to sit around the office during these breaks. The teacher`s fault lay in the fact that he did not suspect someone could be this devious. He should have suspected the worse from his employer and quietly left the country.
The real zinger is that the university paid his full amount for the month. Yet Kim Dong Hwan quickly told the teacher that it was a mistake, that the money was not rightfully his, and that he HAD to pay it back right away. I believe his pension money documents were not yet processed and he was worried about getting zinged there too! Being the guy that he was he paid the slimy little man his money and left the country disgusted.
I would have never paid it back, but thats me. This guy had a lot of integrity and didn`t want to argue with someone far inferior in every way.
Be that as it may I think this co-ordinator is a crook and will put the knife in his grandmothers back if he can get away with it. Very sneaky. The best way to spot a cockroach is to shine a light on it.

Flashlight on.
