I'm in the process of looking for an apartment right now but I'm a little stuck. My new place of employment is in No Won, which is up near the northernmost stop on Line 7. I don't want to live that far out, though. Really, I'd like to live in Hae Bang Chon. The apartments I've seen around there are cool, and especially much better than an officetel. I also like being close to the foreign food availability, because I just can't do Korean food or homecooked junk all the time. I also want to be centrally located for other obvious reasons.

The problem with living in Hae Bang Chon, of course, distance from work. I don't mind a long commute too much if it's possible to do it by bike (scooter) on non-rainy days, but a daily subway or bus commute would do me in. So I'm thinking the best balance would be to find a neighborhood somewhat north or northeast of the Itaewon area. However, I haven't a clue where to begin looking.

I'll have 5 million for key money, and I can probably do up to 600k a month for rent. If anyone has a good recommendation for a neighborhood to check out, it would save me a lot of hassle running around to a thousand realtors.

Thanks!
Q.

If i recall correctly, Hyewha is about slap bang in the middle of itaewon area and Nowon (I used to live up there a few years ago) It's a fairly lively area too, but I'm afraid I have no clue whereabouts specifically you would want to look for apts. Hope that helps!

yeah hyehwa is a pretty happening area, loads of good foreign food, in restaurants at least. it's about halfway between haebangchon and nowon. also, lots of older style buildings, similar to haebangchon. it's on line 4 (light blue line) which is a pretty good line, it covers a lot of key neighbourhoods. you should check it out.
or yeah, bundang.

Unfortunately, yes, especially if a person lives in Seoul and has to start counting transfers and pushy ajummas.
