I drank the water. Not very much, like half a glass... I don't really know what I was thinking. I was in a major hurry and dying of thirst.
Anyway, I told other foreigners this and the general consensus has been: yup, you definitely have typhoid now. Get medicine, stat!
I don't really know anything about typhoid but I know I've felt absolutely healthy since I've been here. Actually, given how much working out I've been doing (spent all day yesterday trekking Suwon), I think I'm actually getting in better shape.
I have the immune system of a bear. When I lived in residence at my university, there would be times when everyone got deathly sick and I was perfectly fine. Do you think that the water will make me sick, or do you think it is inevitable for me to get really sick in my first month here? Even with my strong immune system?
Everyone is telling me that I'm doomed. I'm having to much fun to end up being bed-ridden for a week |

The worst I've ever heard anyone getting from tap water is diarrhoea for a short while.
Once I was thirsty late at night, and the only place I could find water was the tap in a gas station. Yes I drank it, no side effects. A few weeks later I was staying in a posh hotel and I guess the ice was from the tap. That got me sick.
It's a crap shoot, pun intended. |

You'll be fine. Don't worry about it.
Either that or you might get really sick.
Keep us posted, ok? |

The people warning you are probably the same ones that say to bring 30 rolls of deodorant. I have been drinking the tap water here for 10 months now. I am fine. |

I dunno about the big cities, but here in the river valleys around Jiri Mountain the water is pretty good.
On Geoje island there were problems, so boiling and bottled water were the wise options. |

You are a dick for calling him a dick.
You are also a dick for wearing a hat in that photo.
You are a dick for drinking that water.
You are a dick for asking in the first place.
You are a dick for coming here.
You are a dick... |

You'll be fine.
Until the parasites hatch in a few years. Then you'll be spitting on the sidewalk and yelling "Aishiii! Shipal!" at everything and everyone.
You've been warned. |

Koreans have been drinking their tap water for decades. They're not dropping like flies. Their old women carry loads of bricks into their 80s. Nothing in the tap water will kill you in the year or two you're here. The water tastes like ass, I grant you. But I've never seen a single link that actually analyzes the water quality. You would think the print journalists keen to trash the government would find an easy story here. |

They said the same when I was in the Philippines and I got sick from the water and lost 30 lbs. |

How do you know it tastes like ass? How much ass have you tasted. Why wasn't it washed first? |
