| I am finishing my contract next monthh at my elementary school. I am not leaving Korea, but would like to take a trip somewhere. My contract states that I have 10 days after my contract is finished to leave the country, and the school will pay for my ticket. Has anyone bought a ticket home and gotten their public school to reimburse them? |

Lots of people do that. Most K-co-teachers / minders would prefer that arrangement because they don't have to deal with it other than a simple bank transfer. |

| I am not going home, so I should just buy a fully refundable ticket. Right? |

| It depends who you work for and what they say. Many public school will buy a ticket for you of equal or lesser value than what it would cost for you to return home. Others try to be shady and won't let you do that. |

Are you travelling first and then heading home? I did this and all my school needed was a receipt for the ticket (which was dated a month later). You could, in theory, buy a ticket for any date, get it reimbursed, and then travel around at will. If you are NOT planning on going home anytime soon, then you might want to go with the refundable ticket option or get a price quote and ask for a cash equivalent. Depending on your relationship with the administration office (I try to butter them up early!) they may or may not transfer money unless they see an actual receipt.
Good luck. |

| They are trying to tell me that since I switched to the F2-1 visa, therefore extending my visa period, that they don't have to pay for my air ticket. They said their reasononing was that I don't have to leave the country because my visa (F2-1) has been extended to next year. |

What does your contract say about flights home? That is more important than your visa type ... I do not think that visa type makes a difference about getting paid for the flight home at the end of the contract

Bullshot! Bullshot! And more Bullshot!
If you complete your contract, they owe you either a ticket or equivalent monies to where they brought you from. |

| The school, and the MOE, are saying that they do not have to pay for my plane ticket. They are saying this even though I am going to finish my contract. My contract says that I have to leave the country within 10 days after my contract is completed. I know I should have kept my mouth shut about getting a new job after my contract finishes, but, I told the school I would go home for a visit. They are supposed to pay for my one-way ticket to the airport I left the US from. |

So what if you're signing another contract somewhere else. What happens if you renew at the same place? They still have to give you the money.
If it's legal and in your contract, then they have to pay it. Someone is going on someone's very bad advice. Don't wait until your contract is finished to call labor. Then it might be too late if they know they can delay you until you've left. |
