Is anyone familiar with this?
As I understand it, Korean professors' salaries are determined by a nationally derived point scale called hobong (호봉). For example, every year working at the university level is worth one pont, published papers are worth a point, published in international journals 2 points. MA, PhD have point values. Ventures and sponsorship with the private sector as well. Several other categories as well. A professor working for, say, 10 years may have a hobong score of 20-25, and a standardized scale determines his salary.
Opposite of this would be contract professors, who are evaluated every 1-4 years as their contract comes up for renewal.
Anyone have any input on this? |
