I have more or less the same problem. Cant remember which job is from which recruiter.

And GMAIL is wrecking my head too the way it links messages together
(even when they are to different addresses) if you forward something

"how to pick a job?"

They didn't teach you that at PickingJobs 101 in college?

Here's some help: close your eyes and randomly draw one!

I found gmail was the only thing that saved me from getting things all mixed up. With your recruiters tell them what you want, if they send you anything crappy tell them NO, and tell they why you said no, and tell them not to send you any other positions that aren't what you want.

They get mad because they don't get their finder's fee for supplying a foreigner to a hagwon. The best thing to do is to search the reputation of the school by punching in the hagwon's name in the search function here (or Google it) to see if a thread exists, or to create a thread of your own and wait for people here to chime in for their two-cents with a particular school. Once you are interested, you should post the contract up here on the Contracts Sticky and have members review it. Ttompatz is awesome at offering advice on contracts; he has probably saved countless people from getting duped or being miserable in a particular hagwon hell.

It is good to remember that you will not be working for your recruiter ... and your contract is not with them ... it is with the employer ... and you can not necessarily rely on what is said by your recruiter ... they do not have the power to make things happen ... it does all come down to the employer ... And the recruiter will be paid depending on delivering to the employer a new employee nothing more and nothing less..

But that said there are still good and bad recruiters ... But don't get stressed by what any one of them says ... There are plenty of recruiters out there ... and they will give you a range of different jobs ... good and bad ... and it is up to you ... not them ... to choose the job that is the best match for you ...

Dear Lady,

Go for a public school job in Gyeonggi-Do.

Work 9-5, no weekends, no hassle over getting paid on time, and you'll get decent accommodation.

Try www.korvia.com they are very good.

Lastly, I have no ulterior motive for my advice but if once you arrive in Korea you feel like settling down and getting married, I will find time in my busy schedule to marry you (oh dear, I've ruined yet another sensible post)

But seriously, don't go for a hagwon, do you want to move half way around the world and work in a place where you won't get paid on time, or would you prefer a stable, trustworthy job like a public school job?!!!

I agree that gmail made things a LOT easier for me because I could read the email conversations I'd had with each recruiter (and there were dozens of them).

Don't take it personally if they get mad--a lot of them can be pushy and they get pissed off when they find out you're not going to make them any money by accepting whatever crap job they throw your way.

One recruiter (Sally) told me that I had no chance of landing a public school job because I didn't have a Masters (never mind four years of experience and a TEFL certificate). I got a lot of help from this board too. Like another poster said, do your homework on EVERY job that you consider. Many recruiters are counting on the fact that you won't. I had something like six or seven phone interviews before I decided on my current job at a public high school in Gyeonggi.

It also helps to know exactly what you want in terms of hours, location, class size, vacation, pay (including what you're worth). That should weed out quite a few offers right there. Public school is the way to go if you can handle the "isolation" and the bigger classes.

Our public elementary has a kindy and I do teach them once a week. They make my day! Smile

To the OP, there are lots of public elementary schools (more than middle and high school combined).
