Anyone know what the service charges are like when you use a Cirus or Plus network bank debit card overseas?

My friend told me this is the safest way to carry money overseas without the worry of getting robbed (of course unless your debit card is pickpocketed).

For ATM use It (depending on the country in question) works out to about US$3-4 per transaction in assorted bank and machine fees.
side note:C/C access to cash withdrawls/ advances are different and often have no transaction fees - just the CC interest fee.

If you are pulling $500 each time then it is small <1%. If you are doing it $100 at a time is is about 4%.

Aso be aware that the MACHINE limits make make it unfeasable.

As an example, in the Philippines, many machines (but not all) have a p5000 limit (about 100k won) and the fee is 4000 won per transaction.
Some (like the newer BPI machines) have a limit of p20,000 per transaction so the fee works out to about 1%.

The situation WAS similar in Thailand.

In HongKong the fees were similar but the machine limits were higher.

Some BANKS here also have withdrawl limits on the overseas card use. In Thailand the Philippines and Macau I had a daily limit of about 500k won on my ATM card.

On the bonus side, you get the BEST, non-black-market exchange rate on the transactions.

I am pretty sure my KEB card doesn't charge me anything.

Woori said they charge about 3000 won per transaction.

KEB rocks - they don't charge me any money when I exchange paper money. I was changing 200K into HKD yesterday and no handling fee!
