Okay so here is what's going on:

I bought a ticket from Incheon to LA which includes a 4 hour (roughly) stopover gap between connecting flights in Bangkok. What can I do in 4 hours?

No, thats not enough time methinks. The new airport is away from everything. You could take a short cab ride and go eat somewhere but between boarding times, it aint worth it.

Unfortunately I have to agree. The area the airport is in was literally a swamp before the airport was developed . There is nothing much close by. While visas are free for most Westerners, you still have to wait in line to pass out and back through Immigration/Customs as well.

You can spend your time scouting around the new airport noting design flaws, construction mistakes and potential cost overruns (if you dont know, this is a BIG issue with the new airport). The new airport does have all of the amenities you would expect in a modern airport if this is any consolation.

Thanks for the heads up on the new airport everyone. That sucks that I may not be able to do much. I guess I will have to do what Treefarmer said and pound a few Singhas while I'm there.

i'd do what sojourner says and change your flight if possible to involve a stayover, i've met quite a few people who have visited bangkok and noone ever said that they didn't enjoy themselves

There's a good "Sky lounge" over the main terminal. Drinks are pricier than most places in Thailand, but sipping a cizzocktail for an hour and paying $5-7 for the comfortable chairs is worth it.

Also, the airport ministores won't sell beer most of the time. Only during lunch and dinner time, afterwards they lock the fridge. ?????? Shocked

I might just have to do that. I called the travel agent yesterday and it is not possible to change my ticket unless I want to pay an extra 550,000 won as most everything is already booked solid Sad

Yeah the reason for that is this stupid STUPID Thai law that states that stores cannot sell alcohol between 2 and 5 (or maybe it was 12 and 5). They think that this will cut down on the drinking. There are still some stores that will sell it, but if caught, they face a hefty fine.

So from Seoul to LA you have a layover in Bangkok?
Seems a bit out of the way.
I was stuck in the Bangkok airport for a good 6 hours last February...not much to do.

Yeah that is out of the way. Why is the layover in BKK? Are you stopping anywhere else? I didn't think direct flights existed between BKK-LAX. There's usually a stop in Taipei or Tokyo.

If you fly with Thai Airlines, they do have direct flight. My travel agent booked the cheapest fare and this was it. Sad I can't leave the airport to explore Thailand then; to me, this is akin to being told to hold a steak temporarily while being very hungry.

You could leave but it would be tight and would limit you to a few kilometres around the airport. Not really a good idea.

You could blow some cash though and have a four hour rest at the Novetel suites.

Are you landing at the new airport or the old airport. Are you sure that your 4 hours isn't meant as transit time to the new airport.
