This doesn't keep me awake at night, but I was wondering what the consensus is regarding this 'issue'.

I was in Mokdong yesterday, and I sat down at a table outside a mart to have a cold beverage (it's getting hot, huh?).

I saw several foreigners walk by. A few didn't have belts with their pants, and their shirts were tucked-in. It looked kind of shabby to me. They seemed just average otherwise.

I am hardly a fashion nazi, but it seems to me that it's better to wear one if that is your choice of ensemble.

Am I missing out on a recent trend?

With pants as in trousers not jeans? You should wear a belt. I think your belt should be the same color as your shoes..maybe..i don't often wear trousers.

If you are wearing jeans, cords, khakis etc your t shirt shouldn't be tucked in, because you look like an old man. If you are an old man go with the flow and tuck it in, and drool in public too, you deserve it.

Remember the golden rule, if you are wearing white socks with black shoes you are a farmer.

I am a fashion nazi and its way cooler than being a grammar nazi.

I concur.

edit: And thanks for not being a grammar nazi. On this board, I type like I speak.

I'm no fashionista by a long shot, but I do consider it gross to tuck in a shirt if you're not wearing a belt. It just looks so nerdy.

I've seen some pretty bad stuff here, but nothing is worse for me than black jeans/slacks with brown shoes/boots. I've seen several foreigners sporting this look.

I find something abhorrent about black jeans anyway..(blue)jeans are perfect for white sneakers or brown sneakers/brown shoes. I think if you have dress jeans(that you wear out at the weekend) you should have brown shoes to go with them.

Black slacks with boots(of any color) is just wrong. Slacks and boots is another big farmer sign. Actually wearing boots when you aren't working(outdoors) is pretty sad. Of course there are exceptions.

You beat me to it. Black jeans are gross, no doubt about it.

My wife saw a foreigner walking with no belt and his jeans hanging off his ass. He was not trying to be hip (I hope), he was just a fat dude with no belt.

My wife pointed and said some thing like "ddong-paji". I was cracking up. He did look like he was carrying a stinky package.

I used to rock the skinny leg black jeans with big stomping boots and a 'dayglo abortions' t-shirt. But, as S.E. Hinton has it, "That Was Then, This Is Now."

Some shirts must be tucked in. Many shirts should not ever be tucked in. Anybody who tucks in a t-shirt should be given a helmet and a drool-cup, IMHO.

What about a dark blue suit. Dark brown shoes, or black? (Matching belt, of course.)

I have to wear a belt... I have lost enough weight in Korea that I have actually tightened my belt a notch in the past 3 months. But besides that, I think a belt is just a proper accessory and should be worn, especially if you are tucking in your shirt.

It wasn't 똥배? That means beer belly (of course, literally, crap belly) and I've heard Koreans say it to foreigners quite loudly and rudely. Good times, good times.

Anyway, trends are stupid. I am afraid to wear pants without a belt, pretty much all the time now, as it creeps me out. But I make up for that by wearing black socks with shorts. Beat that!

While wearing sandals and a fanny pack would be even better. And maybe a sun nose-guard.

I'm not a fashion nazi, but I know how to dress well.

With a tucked in shirt you always wear a belt. Period.

...and it should match your shoes.

If you're wearing white socks with anything then you are a farmer. White socks? Are you serious?

Black pants (not jeans, people actually wear those?) can be worn with a much, much lighter brown shoe. Dark on dark can't work. Looks like you can't afford a pair of black ones.

Depends on the tie.
