|
|
After looking online, most of the hotels seem to be running over 100,000원 a night, and they look like a dump. A lot of these hotels are nothing more than a small, cramped room with a bed. Some of the places don't even have any windows.
I tried booking with the MYMCA for 75,000/night but they're all full.
Does any have a recommendation on where to stay? Should I be able to find a decent motel/hotel once I get there? I may try to convince my gf to just spend our entire vacation in Thailand if we have to shell out 200,000 for something semi-decent. |

If you arent looking for hotels with 4/5 star ratings, you can go for the ones at Kallang or China town.
China town has cheaper options available.
Kallang is sort of sporting house areas in singapore, but no problems about friendliness or security.
My two cents... |

Where can I find more information online? I don't want anything fancy, nor do I want to sleep in a hostel. I'd like to spend no more than 70-80,000/night |

I stayed at the New 7th Story Hotel in Singapore last summer. Super location next to Arab street 10 minute walk to Queen's Quay or Clark Quay. It is not posh by any means but reasonably priced and pretty clean. http://www.nsshotel.com/ |

In the Geylang area, near the national stadium, are a number of hotels in the Hotel 81 chain. I've stayed in a couple when passing through Singapore in the past. The rooms are small, but spotlessly clean and the neighborhood is...well...interesting. Lots of restaurants around, open all hours, 10-minute walk to Aljuneid metro station, but you have to turn a blind eye to all the hookers roaming the streets in that area. Rooms are quiet enough, though, and I've never heard the sounds of any energetic sex rumbling through the walls.
But here's the key point: as of my last visit to Singapore (2005), rooms are only $49 SIN per night and $59 on the weekend. Call it 40,000 or 50,000 won/night. |

I've had good luck at this small chain of relatively modest, but clean and safe hotels.

US$40-50 a night in most locations. Newish - good service and good selection of locations. |

No problem, I hope it works out for you. Two things which were great near there... Go to Arab street and sit outside and drink tea while smoking shisha, great way to spend a few hours; bring a book. Also, for great food at a great price try "steamboats". They are basically Chinese hot pot. Go out the front door of NSS hotel turn right, go to the first street and turn right. They are around there, keep walking you will find them, if not ask someone. They are all you can eat, cheap and maybe the best meal I had in Singapore. |

I stayed at their Emerald Hotel (in Geylang) for five nights. My small room was clean, had TV, fridge and AC. No complaints there. I might stay there again if I had to. Now get this, because it was off season at that time, I paid only US 28 per night!
Oh yeah, there's a transit hotel on the other side of the street. They even offer hourly rates. *Cough* Anyway, the ladies of the night selling their services left me alone after couple days. |
