To anyone who has a Samsung T-Class card, i'm interested to how you got one. Because I applied last week for a card and today I was informed that my application has been declined.
FYI i'm a not a teacher but a consultant for a law firm and why I still can't get a card is perplexing me. |

I'm getting pi55ed off with these Korean financial inst., I also applied for a Hyundau card and was told conflicting things my 4 different people working at their centre. To me finally told that for a Foreigner to get a card you need to have you own house, not rented but own a property.
ODD!! |

Uh, because you are a foreigner. Even is you are "I'm better than a teacher" Superforeigner, you are still just an outside person in Korea.
You'd think an awesome law consultant could figure that one out. haha... |

If you read my post as me trying to portray that I'm better than a teacher, that was not my intent. The reason why I stated by profession was that it is well known that bank and credit card issuers do not give to hagwon teachers, and I would bet the majority of replies to my post would state that Hagwon teachers cannot get cards.
Therefore, my question was aimed at people who had been issued one and if they know what the requirements were. The samsung employee wouldn't expalin the reason.
And Hubba Bubba, there is no reason or justification to be so condescending. |

It will depend on a number of factors like:
visa status
employment status
employer
Hakwon teachers as you know cannot get one.
Public school teachers CAN get one AFTER they have their ARC and medical plan booklet. (government employee)
University teacher CAN get one (same rules as a public school teacher). Uni's are considered safe employers.
University language institute teacher usually cannot get one. (treated like hakwon teachers).
Government employees can get one (same rules as a public school teacher).
F2 / F4 / f5 - depends on who your employer (or spouses employer) is or your equity in real estate, etc.
D8 - depends on your length of sojourn and size of the investment.
Hope that clarified the mud a little but probably won't be much help in getting you a card.
You might consider looking at a bank card instead. The rules are sometimes different when you are NOT a hakwon teacher.
AND for the record, I have both a samsung card and a bank card (both unsecured). I am a public school teacher. |

Try getting the Expat card from KEB Bank. The Expat card is aimed specifically at foreigners. Teachers can not get that card (I think uni teachers can), but if you are working for an actual firm then see if you can get that. |
