What do you think of this idea? For? Against? Why? I don't know about Canada, but in the U.S., drug testing is mandatory for most decent jobs and for ALL teaching jobs.

Do you think someone taking drugs is qualified to teach? Better yet, do you think drug testing is an invasion of privacy? I don't think it is an invasion of privacy. I think teachers are supposed to fill a specific role and thus should act accordingly. Just my two cents.

For the record, I don't use drugs.

Having said that, I don't think someone who occasionaly puffs herb on the weekends should lose his job over it. No worse than getting blotto on soju on a Monday night. Yes, I know drugs are illegal, so in a way it is worse. It's a tough call, thin line, chose your metaphor.

MANDATORY testing, no. If I own a business, I don't want the government telling me I HAVE to test my employees. It's my choice. If it's government policy, then that's fine.

( 1 ) Is drug testing an invasion of privacy?

Some teachers may put up a fight if they take medication for illness they wouldn't have been hired over. Prescription medications usually pop up on the radar screen during a drug test. As you know, doctors and employers have been know to talk about an employee's medical history in Korea.

I don't give a flip either way. As a non-drugs user it's the very least of my concerns.

perhaps I should have been more specific: In Florida, to be a teacher, you must undergo a background check and a drug-test. Yes, the term 'decent' is arbitrary, but, everything I have seen (which I must admit hasn't been much since the jobs I was looking at were limited to the Florida area) that has been worth the time has required testing.

In Nebraska you have to be willing to submit to random drug testing for all government jobs. If you want to work in a slaughter house same applies. I think it is a good idea.

I don't spark up any more as it is illegal here and to be honest stuff ought to be made legal. Nobody on smoke has ever tried to beat me up or yell at me...they will steal your Doritos if you don't watch them.

Test all the drug taking trash.......if you aint using anything why worry just take the test....the thing that keeps Korea the great place to live and work is the low levels of crime and violence........once drugs become endemic that will change.........mandatory testing is a good thing....keep the scum out (I kind of sugar-coated my comments but I think you get the message).

I will agree with most on this it's pretty much mandatory in every state. If not I guarantee you will get fired if your caught.

Where's the "irrelevant" option? There are no drugs here.
