Hi all,
OK, so my gfs birthday is coming up and I want to take her to a good Vietnamese restaurant, any suggestions?
Im based in Ansan so that would be ideal (I know about Mr Phos in Jungang), Im looking for somewhere more authentic. The quality of the food is more important than the location etc. Restaurants in Seoul are also cool.
Thanks in advance. |

I found a vietnamese place outside COEX. It is at the back of COEX below a Japanese Jazz bar.
The name of this place by the way is "Pho" and the standard of food there is reasonable though not as good as what I've tried back home. |

I used to live in Hanoi. Here's what I have to say about VN restaurants in Korea. Half the quality. Ten times the price. I paid 10,000 for some Pho Bo. Why bother, IMO. |

Agreed. Why pay $7 or more for a bowl of noodles and still be hungry 30 minutes later? |

If anyone finds a good one in Korea.. let me know. I absolutely love Vietnamese food (particularly back home).. even in the Philippines.. it tastes great!
Never once found a good VN restaurant in Korea though. I did walk by one Gwangwhamoon that wasn't a chain.. I'd be a bit curious if it was genuine VN food or not. |

None I've been to yet have had much taste to them.No lemongrass, have to ask for coriander.Basically just use chilli, garlic and ginger.End up being pretty bland.
There's one at Sunae station though, past McDs with a rickshaw out front. It was Ok-ish. |

Hoason (I think that's the spelling) is better than that one. It's on the other side of Lotte. Just walk out and it's directly on your left. Try it. |

Yeah, that one's OK.I just suggested the first one as it's perhaps better for a date. |

Coincidentally, so is my GF's. This Saturday in fact, and I've still not decided where I'm taking her. Jeez, Vietnamese sounds really good. Too bad nobody can vouch for a truly good place, though.
Here's my suggestion, though this is regarding Vietnamese cuisine in Seoul -- not a particular place where you can take her on her B-day. Keep an eye on the hotel news section of the papers. The 5-stars are always having food festivals featuring the cuisine of a particular country, with top chefs flown in to whip up the grub. And Vietnam comes up several times a year, with almost every major hotel doing its own Vietnamese Cuisine Week at some point on the calendar. Is it cheap? Not compared to the flyblown noodle joints, but when it's your girl's birthday, that's not where you should be going. For the quality and assortment and authenticity, look for the national-cuisine food festivals at the big hotels. They have them all the time. Yes, you may have to eat ramyon for a week afterwards to balance your budget. I always do. But her day comes only once a year, so make it memorable. |

that isn't a lot more than here in the states. $5-5.50 for small bowl, an extra buck for big bowl at the cheap pho places around here. |
