Personally, I find the hanbok to be a terrible garment. There are too many colors mixed together, it's gaudy, and it does not complement a person's body at all. Whenever I go to big box stores during holiday seasons and they have all the ajummas huddled around the tables wearing their hanboks, it makes me want to throw up from the eye-gouging clusterfck of mismatched colors.

Here are some photographs.

I think a Japanese kimono, Vietnamese ao dai, or Indian sari look far better in comparison.

Just check out how hot George Bush looks in his ao dai.

Sexy!

I love my hanbok. It is not gaudy and I like the way it billows out from the body.
My only complaint is that it is a bit complicated to put on so I always need a Korean person to help me.

The colors are nice on most Hanboks but it is definitely not sexy. The Ao Dai from Vietnam is colorful and sexy.

I think the Korean men played a joke on their women in order to make them look as unsexy as possible to keep foreign men away. Wink

To keep consistant with the rest of Korean culture, the colors are "over the top". Too bright! Ouch! My eyes are sore.

The men's pink shirt is the modern equivalent of the hanbok.

My brother has like 4 pink shirts. Lots of American guys wear pink shirts. (I have pink underwear!)

I gave it a 1. It reminds me of getting a suit made in Itaewon. You spend all that money and they take your measurements and it the end it doesn't even come close to fitting anyways.

In old softcore porn movies that are set in the past, they sometimes have girls who look hot in a hanbok. As long as they aren't too garish with the colours they're alright.

I kind of like it. But I'm male. I don't have to wear one. I do think Koreans find nothing funnier on this planet than a blond woman in a hanbok.

The right way to wear it:

(be Korean)

The way to get in the paper:

(be a blond woman wearing a hanbok during a major Korean holiday)

I agree with that. No offense to those who wear them or have worn them for weddings or whatever, but I just think non-Asians wearing traditional Asian clothes look a bit goofy. It's like a man wearing a skirt.

Very, very, very unflattering attire. Might as well be wearing a burka.

I don't want to say too much negative, since it is a cultural thing and I'll respect it for being different... But, when you hear Korean netizens go on about how beautiful and sexy it is, all I can think is "cotton candy saleswoman"

Most hanboks I see are worn by grandmothers going to weddings. That might be why people don't seem to like them.

I prefer a kimono.
