I've got an AVI file I want to use for someone's wedding, but the file is about 3 years old and not working. I've tried the standard stuff to get it to work, but I think I'm going to need a repair program of some type, ideally a free to download one. Can anyone recommend one?
Also, if you do anything special that you've found works at repairing files, please feel free to post or PM me with that info.

That old, probably needs an old codec to play. I have some videos that don't work from about 6 or 7 years ago as well.
Get the Aceman codec mega pack or the k-like codec megapack. It will have old codecs that will enable you to play those old vids. |

| Try VLC. There is a feature that tries to fix broken videos (or videos that seems corrupted). This occurs automatically when you try to play. Make sure you do a backup of the file before trying. |

thanks.
I tried VLC, but the auto repair function is a little different on the mac. I'm going to try VLC on my pC laptop tonight, and check the repair function on that.
I toyed around on my own and whereas before it wouldn't play at all, I now have the audio working, but the video is a freeze frame of the first frame.
I'll be trying the codecs as well.
Thanks again, and any more suggestion, let me know. |
