Hello,
I'm starting a new job next Monday and have to select textbooks for a bunch of courses. I have some ideas myself, of course, but figured I'd ask for any recommendations before I head down to the ol' foreign language bookstore tomorrow/Wednesday.
The courses I need books for are Essay Writing, Public Speaking, Media English and a Speaking and Listening (conversation) class. No freshmen, all the students are second or third years, so probably no beginners stuff.
If you've any experience or recommendations on selecting textbooks for courses where you haven't even met the students yet (making it more tricky to be bang on with their ability), please let me know.
Thanks! |

Contact the Korea reps for Prentice Hall and Oxford after looking around at their web sites for possible texts. You can request free copies to review, and then have your department order through the book store, which makes it easy for the students to get copies. |

makemischief - Thanks for that. I understand it's hard to choose without more data because that's exactly the situation I'm in! All I know is the books used in the past (I'm been requested not to use the same books as last semester incase students take the same course again) and a short paragraph describing the course. Makes it very tricky. I'll make a note of those books and have a look when I go to the bookstore.
PRagic - Cheers, I'll try that out next time. This week, I think I may be a little short of time to be requesting stuff to be sent here. Need to make my choices quick! |

I'd also recommend first reviewing any book online or better at a bookstore before purchasing. You can probably find most books for download on our EFL Scribd site -- check them out and then purchase if you see they have the "goods". Browse the folders.

Another good source is to browse our Bookstore . Hand picked books by EFL teachers with experience. All categorized. Find what you like there and either purchase directly onsite or get to the bookstore.... htp://eflclassroom.com/eflbooks.html
