|
|
A friend of mine wants to know if that person should fly to Korea now and then apply for a public school job for August or wait, get awarded a position for August, and then fly. Will he/she be reimbursed for the flight over here in both instances?
To answer two questions before anyone flames me- Yes, I really do have friends, and, no, the person is not a he/she. |

My educated guess would be to say they will only be reimbursed for one flight over here in any event...Schools are not goig to pay two fares for a person irregardless of the hiring or non-hiring of the person... |

It's one flight, but the question is more about the timing of the flight and the hiring process. If one flies here before being hired will they receive reimbursement? If one flies here after being hired will they receive reimbursement? I can't answer because I was hired in Korea. |

To answer your questions:
OFFICIALLY -
If they land the contract first, they will get their visa in their home country and avoid the cost of the visa run. School will reimburse the air ticket.
If they fly BEFORE they land the contract / get hired they probably will NOT get reimbursed for the flight over because the school will have to pay for a visa run. Official policy is one or the other but not both.
The unofficial answer may vary depending on individual circumstances but by and large, if you are here when they hire you you get a visa run and NOT reimbursed for your flight from home. They will pay to send you back at the end of your contract.
If they hire you from abroad they will pay the cost of the flight here (and perhaps <but not always> a visa run as well if it is a "get here ASAP" position). |

What if the person doesn't need a visa run, because they already have the visa? That's my case. Already have the f4, but all the schools are telling me from EPIK that I have to fly on my own and they will pay me back.No prepaid flights available. So, I guess if it's either visa run or oneway to Korea, I will be safe to fly one way to Korea now, before I secure a public school job from the USA. Thanks for the replies. |

EPIK teachers do not have to do visa runs.
I don't know if they will reimburse you for the ticket if you come here first. |
