I am thinking about taking the Asian EFL Journal Online TESOL Certificate. Has anyone taken this before? As I am a high school teacher in Canada, I am wondering if this certificate would help me in the public school system? Is it worth taking? I am leaving in a couple of months, but as someone else suggested on a different post, why not do something constructive with my time during the summer?

Check out the article on the following site:

http://forum.koredinco.com/viewforum.php?f=11

The article was written by Dr. Wayne Bottiger, a teacher and author who has been teaching for more than 22 years in the United States. He is an Educator with training in instructional technology, and designs Internet courses for a number of companies...The article is a good read...

As you have already done a year in Korea and are a qualified teacher back home I don't think there is anything it could really teach you is there?

Maybe be the one month TESOL course might be worth a look.

That was a good read, however, it didn't really tell me anything I didn't already know. I have done a couple of online classes before and I am really just looking for some information about this particular course. Does anyone have any information about the Asian EFL Journal online TESOL class? Was it successful for you? Did you enjoy the course content?

The program is good and has quite a number of students currently enrolled...they used to offer their program for about $160, including book and certificate fees, but the price has gone up drastically since they ended the "free option"

The program according to the owner of the program is more academic in nature and focused on reading and research articles which are submitted as course assignments...You can finish the program in about 6 months with diligent study, and it is okay, but heavy on the reading side...

I was actually signed up to take the course, but it became quite hard to shuffle my schedule to make things work...I purchased the textbook, and did quite a bit of reading, but never completed the course...Again, it is academic in nature and they promote the fact that you can apply for credits from their program to be accepted by certain universities around the world...

That is what I know, about them...I would give them an "A" as far as content is concerned and a "B-" in the way that students are required to do their coursework...

Other programs are more applied in their focus and concentration...Hope this helps...Thanks for the cudos on the article... Laughing

One more thing, the people who are diehard on-site people will probably not give you very glowing reports on the Asian EFL course in spite of the fact that it has been doing a good job...

Thanks for the information. I am not sure that I would be able to do it in time then. I was hoping to complete the course in two months, over the summer, when there is nothing to do at our public schools. I am leaving for Canada September 2nd and I thought for the price, it might be worth taking the course. I am always looking for a good deal with professional developement stuff.

Thanks again for the information. I have a bit of thinking to do.
