I'm about to get cable. My director recommended Sky life Cable. I looked it up. The hook-up fees seem pretty steep. Does anyone use this cable service? If you do how is it? |

If you sign up for three years, installation and the equipment are free and you'll get a lower monthly fee. If you do not sign up for three years, you'll probably have to pay for installation and equipment and that'll run you probably about 220,000 won. My Korean friend also says he's heard a LOT of complaints about Skylife, so if you can, just get regular or digital cable. |

I haven't heard of any problems ... I just know that it did have the largest collection of English language channels than any other option I had - and if my landlord hadn't said I couldn't have it - I would now have it.

They also charge foreigners a higher installation charge. Ask a korean friend to use their name.
If they trust you won't bolt the country... |

I don't like it for a couple of reasons. The biggest reason is that it goes out frequently due to inclement weather. I'm not talkin about a major thunderstorm or blizzard mind you. It goes out when it's cloudy. WTF?!? Ours also doesn't have AFN which has the best shows. |

I just got HelloD, which is digital cable run by CJ CableNet. It comes with several English channels, including AFN, ABC (australian one, not american), BBC World, CNN, plenty of movie channels, etc. I got to watch Jeopardy when I came home from work yesterday! Kaching! |

I hope I don't get in trouble by the mods but if you get cable internet you can just splice it to your TV and get 78 channels for free. Buy the splitter at technomart or at your local street ajossi. Also buy a couple of extra cables and you are set. YOu can do this in just about every country that has cable.
C & M cable is about 15-16000 won per month, 90 000 deposit for the modem. It's not superfast but fast enough. |

I'm thinking Skylife isn't worth the extra trouble given that digital cable gives you most of what you need. Skylife's forte is probably better picture and sound, in addition to Star Sports in English, BBC Entertainment (Korean version with subs) and AXN, an action movie and program channel. What if you move? Then you have to call the service people to de-instal the dish antenna and put it on your new place, and that's IF your new landlord will allow it. |
