Hey I have a question and would appreciate some input.

I have signed on for another year at my school. Is it possible just to get a visa extension....or do I have to do another visa run?

Take your new contract, your school's business registration papers, your passport, your ARC, and I believe it's 30,000 and they'll extend your VISA in about 10 minutes or less.

No visa run is necessary.

30,000 to renew the visa, but I hear there's also a separate fee for your reentry permit. I think it's 50,000 won for a multiple entry permit. Anyone else have better information about this? I'm renewing tomorrow!

30k for your visa extension
+
MULTI re-entry permits on an extended visa are 50k for everyone including Americans and EXCEPT for Brits (Brits get theirs for free).

Took care of this yesterday. For others that have done it, did they just put a stamp in your passport showing visa status (E-2) and the extented period? That's what they did yesterday, and although I checked and doulbe-checked with them, I'd like to know if this suffices.

More questions:

I'm a little paranoid about the reentry permits. Do I just ask for it, is there a separate form, or do I just check a box on the renewal form?

Has anyone made a reservation on the immigration web site? I tried to, but it brought me to a page that was in Korean, and no matter where I clicked I never got anywhere close to a form for making a reservation.

Finally, I'm sure this question has been answered in a million other threads, but what are the hours at immigration? What time do they close and are they open on Saturdays?

Oh yeah, one more question. Do they keep your passport or ARC for a few days, or do they give it back to you when you leave?

Thanks!

At the immigration office you can check the extension of sejourn and the re-entry permit boxes on the same form.

Don't forget to take a passport photo to put on the form.

They do not keep your passport. They just take your ARC and while you wait they will put your new expiry date on the back of your ARC.
I think last time I waited about 15 mins for them to update my ARC.

They should have marked the new exit dates on the back of your ARC and if you got a new re-entry permit it would be in your passport with the status of sojourn and validity period.

Hmm, everything seems to check out, then.

They did misspell "Permit" on the stamp, though.

Be careful. I went to my local immi office last year for an extension, and they gave me an extension -- a TOURIST extension. I left the country and when I came back they detained me, interrogated me and confiscated my ARC. I had to teach under the table until I left.
