I really hope they get denied. Honestly, why would you give a waiver to a country in which you have riot police guarding your embassy?

I don't think Korea deserves one until they crack down on people illegally staying in the USA and the flood of Korean prostitutes currently working in the USA. Korea needs to clean up their act first.

That would be like opening the floodgates. If anything, USA needs to be stricter on their visas.

Bush was the one who proposed this?

Oh god, forget it then. Even if Korea is accepted in the VWP, Koreans will burn his effigy and refuse to be included!!!

Why doesn't Korea slap visa requirements on non-military US visitors? I think there are many in the Korean government that secretly hope Korea is not included in the VWP.

The article I read said that under the proposal, which must go through Congress, a person can visit the USA as a tourist for 30 days.

I'm all for it.

That would exclude many other countries: have you not travelled much?

I've been to US consulates in China, Thailand, and Japan and none of them were surrounded by armed guards.

I can already start to hear a sucking sound as young koreans head for the US to live and work. I also see a possibility of another massacre of americans by a korean due to their unsocial behaviour in the US. Lets never forget the 34 dead in VA.

Good: so they are all visa-waiver countries, yes?

(BTW, visit Cairo, Athens, Paris, London etc etc)

Japan is a visa waiver country, China and Thailand are not.

So the absence of armed guards outside a US Consulate is not a condition precedent to according visa waiver status?
