Since starting my job last year, I've had 2 summer camps, a winter camp and a spring camp. I also taught 40 after school classes this year, which were usually much better than the normal lessons I taught in class.

I have a little problem with this winter camp coming up. The same students keep joining. There are some students who have joined all the camps that I've taught and after school classes. I'll have about 12-15 students per class, but the fun part is that the classes are 3 hours long. Do you guys luck out and get new students for each camp, or do you have the same students attending each one?

I have the same problem.

For some reason unknown to me, only girls join my camps. If there are boys, the girls scare them off a day later. It's always the same batch of girls too and a few of them are fluent/near fluent speakers.

I guess I can't complain though.. they're great students. Sometimes I just sit on the table and talk to them for an hour.

I've only done a winter and summer camp. I'd say about 30-50% of the kids who came to my winter camp were in my summer camp.

I'll start my 2nd winter camp next week and I expect to have a lot of the same kids again. I've done new lesson plans and games, but it'll borrow somewhat from last year's winter camp.

It's better to create a fresh batch of lessons for each camp. However if you've had something that has really worked in the past and one of two students have already done it I wouldn't rule it out. The students who have already done are actually quite helpful in translating how to do the activity to the students who don't understand.

I would avoid giving out the same handouts wordfinds. However most of them don't notice. The worst possible outcome is having one or two students yell " Finisheee

it's usually the same kids that sign up for my camps, so i do different plans for the summer and winter.
