When picking up 2 piggies, I made a mistake and brought home a girl
and a boy...And unfortunately they obviously had babies.
I find it heartbreaking to give away the mom, but I don't want any
more "surprises"...
So Jafie is the proud mom of 3 and I wish she could be adopted with
her daughter (her identical baby); they get along very well and
piggies need friends in order to be really happy. Plus, 2 females is
the best option when one is a little older. She is only 5 months old.
Then there are a brown and white boy and a black and brownish girl of
5 weeks.
They are not very hard to take care of as they are very happy when
they are two.

They are edible, you know.
Could save you a lot of cash, breeding your own protein. |

Do they taste anything like rabbits? I may be interested. How many would it take to make a good stew? 2? 3? |

How do you know which baby is a girl and is a boy????
MOM + SON = MORE BABY GUINEA PIGS
DAD + DAUGHTER = MORE BABY GUINEA PIGS
BROTHER + SISTER = MORE BABY GUINEA PIGS
you get the point.
How old are they? Males reach maturity at 3-5 weeks and females as early as 4 weeks so your little girls might be pregnant already. Not to mention the female can get pregnant 6-48 hours after giving birth. So in all likelyhood if you've not separated mom and dad she's already prego again. and if you've not separated mom from Junior he did the deed himself. |

I used to have guinea pigs.
Mommy and Daddy had baby guinea pigs. Then Daddy and baby guinea pigs had more guinea pigs. |

So how do you tell when a guinea pig is a retarded inbred?
I remember once when I was about 10 we had a litter of kittens that was ... just ... strange. All the cats on our very remote farm had started getting odder by the year. Then suddenly all the cats were gone one day and my dad suggested we go out and find lots of new kitties from different areas. |

I was told they are only mature at 2 months, but maybe not...I hope I was not too late.
No signs of pregnancy though... |

Inbreeding in guinea pigs causes them to have abnormal teeth so they can't eat and their little eyes to be permanently glued shut or blind. They tend to not do so well but it is possible they'll grow to adulthood.
To the OP:
You HOPE you're not too late??? How about separating them immediately to ensure that there are no more accidental pregnancies. Or better yet get the males castrated. |

Dazed and Confused,
When I say that I hope I was not too late, I meant I hope I separated them before they got any more reproduction going on....
Thus, I DID separate them, but I hope I did it on time!!!
And castrating the males is quite risky. More risks of death than anything else.... |
