I occasionally pop into Hollywood Grill (on the top floor above Spy) for a drink every now and again.

When I went in a few nights back I see they had installed a poker table. It was covered up for most of the night until 11ish when three Kyopos turned up and started gambling. The dude behind the bar was taking their cash and dishing out chips minus a 10% rake. Pretty soon the intial crowd of 3 grow to a full table of 9 or 10 guys.

The atmosphere of the place changed pretty quick from a relaxed place for a pint to a bit of a gambling den.

Does anyone have a clue how these guys can do this? Is it suddenly legal for bars to be making a bit on the side by hosting poker games? I was kinda surprised by the open nature of something I thought was illegal here...

I've played that table a few times.

It is illegal, and NO $ is allowed to pass hands on the table - ever. Strictly taboo. So its all for fun.. (wink wink)., actually that is why you buy the chips at at the bar with the rake so the $ never hits the table and in plain view.

Hands down my favourite bar in Itaewon. Super-friendly staff, good food, decent beer - but don't tell anyone! Let's keep the riff-raff out!
