Hey,
I think some of you on this board have read 'The Lovely Bones' by Alice Sebold. Anyway, they're making it into a film. They just cast Ryan Gosling as the character of the father. The daughter in the book was around 12 years old. Ryan Gosling is 26 years old. That means, if they keep the daughter's age the same as it was in the book, Gosling would have had her at 14 years old.
I might be wrong, but I think this movie is going to turn out to be crap. I don't see Gosling as being a 'father type' character yet. Yet another Hollywood mis-casting.

I think he can get away with playing a guy in his early thirties, and he'd be as good as anyone else out there. Lots of actors in that age group tend to play types rather than roles (Dark and broody types or slacker Peter Pans)
Got a specific wish list for the parts, and any news on the other major male role? |

Hey,
I think Josh Lucas would fit the role of Susie's father better than Gosling. I think Rachel Weiss was a good call for the role of the mother. As for the killler...hmm...I have no idea. For Susie, I would cast Kristen Stewart, the daughter in Panic Room. But, she's probably too old for the part now.

Peter Jackson's directing this? interesting followup to LotR and KingKong. I had to look up Josh Lucas, not sure he can pull off a real lead role. Susie will be an unknown, of course. Ellen Page, the girl from Hard Candy might be good, though it'd be hard to see her as a victim after that. |

It's true that Lucas hasn't had many leads (Sweet Home Alabama was one of the few) but if I remember the book correctly, the father didn't have a major role, anyway. |

I'm going to guess they're going to make her a lot younger then. The father did have some dramatic parts and Ryan Gosling does have the chops for it. We'll just have to wait and see. The book is so powerful and I just hope the movie does it justice. |
