|
|
I'm doing a 3-month SE Asian trip from Thailand to Indonesia, starting in early September and ending in mid-December. My point of origin is the U.S., and so I will be flying either into Bangkok or Bali (though I'm open to changing these arrival/departure cities).
1) Like most, I'm trying to do this as economically as possible, but at the same time, want to avoid as much rain as I can. I know the rains can be intermittent in many of these SE Asian countries, but I'm wondering if it might be smarter to start in Indonesia in September and end up in Thailand in December (when these places are relatively dry), and thus, avoiding at least some of the rain. What do you think?
2) If I did this itinerary, however, would it be more expensive? In other words, do you think it would make much of a difference in price if I flew into Bangkok first, made my way south to Indonesia, then back to Bangkok before returning to the U.S.-----as opposed to flying into Bali, making my way north to Thailand, then back to Bali before returning to the U.S.?
Taking these criteria----cost and climate----into consideration, which itinerary would you do?
Thanks in advance |

I posted a heap of info about Bali in a recent thread by mcgeezer, check it out.
I have been to Bali 5 times. A couple times were in the early part of January and there was heavy rain. Really heavy. I am not positive, but I would expect that December would be wet also. Generally northern Australia and south east Asia has monsoonal rains during these months (I could be wrong, but I think I am right about this). So Bali would be a good start.
Check out the various world weather stats sites that indicate rainfall if you are not sure.
I can't speak for Bangkok though.
I wouldn't worry too much about the prices. A place like Bali is always cheap, if you are used to their prices and how they go about things.
If you want more info on Bali, check out the thread I mentioned or send me a PM. I have other info I can provide also, which will be useful for getting around, knowing some prices etc (be aware also of arrival visa costs for Bail and departure tax. |
