|
|
Hi,
I am currently doing a BA in Korean language and hopefully will graduate in two years time. I am thinking of doing an MA at a Korean university after that but money will be the big issue.
Now I know students cannot work whilst studying, but if I have a degree (therefore making me eligible for a teaching job) is there any law stopping me working part time while I study for my Masters programme?
Now this is of course assuming the rules don't change between now and then but as things stand can an MA student legally teach? |

After the first semester/6 months in your program, you can do part-time work in the area of your studies. Don't know if that would cover English teaching for you. Up to 20 hours/week during the semester and 40/unlimited/hours on vacations.
You need to apply to Immigration for permission. |

It would be easier to get a job working afternoon/evenings and then ADD your studies to your work visa.
This would also eliminate the worry about housing and expense of airfare as well.
IF things don't work out, quit the job after 6 months (so you don't have to repay the airfare) and change your status to full time student. |

It depends on what kind of degree you're getting.
If you're studying Korean culture (history, literature, etc.) or language, you don't need any special permission. Just get an E2 and hop to it.
Otherwise, it's a little harder. |

My BA is Korean Language. As for MA am not sure yet, WIll probably depend on exactly what there is possible for a foreigner to study at a Korean university. |

Not so easy. I think that most schools will have classes from 9-11AM and 1-3PM. Can you actually get a hogwon job that will schedule you from 4PM-9PM every night. Not to mention that your hogwon will try to change your schedule on you periodicly.
I looked at Yonsei's programs in Korean Studies but it seemed that I must take some classes in the afternoon. If I was lucky enough to schedule the necessary classes 9-11AM then I guess that I could work at a hogwon in the afternoon. |

don't worry about it, it's a long way off. evaluate your situation once you're near graduation and see where you stand. |

Why not look at doing a Masters online from the USA, Canada, etc..? Unless you're going to do a Masters in a Korean subject, it won't carry much weight outside of Korea. |

Wouldn't it be nice if people read before posting. The OP wrote:

While the OP does not directly say that he wants to study Korean in Korea or something about Korea we might guess that he is interested in doing that because he is doing a BA in Korean. |
