I was under the impression that PS give you about 4-weeks paid holiday per year. Am I right on this or is that a bit wide of the mark?

I've just been sent a contract which only stipulated 14 days holiday per year and wanted to know if it's worth digging my heels in for an extra 6.

14 days by contract is pretty standard

There are contracts out there that stipulate more...4 weeks...6 weeks...but they are rare.

You get what the contract says...some Principals will allow more than the contract...some won't.

What are you, on your third tour or something? Fair play either way. This is my first contract so I doubt I'll be getting any jam on my toast just yet.

So why such a difference between the provinces? You'd have thought that the terms and conditions etc would be pretty uniform across the country.

You think They're (Gangwon-Do) offering more holidays to encourage more teachers to locate out to the sticks?

Wish I hadn't posted this thread now. My mind was made up, now I'm not so sure.

You are morelikely to get good vacation if you don't work with EPIK. I technically get 4 weeks a year, but I've gotten 6 this year. I am employed directly by my school.

SMOE gives 21 working days base holiday, plus the chance for 10 more by working certain camps, plus 10 more if you re-sign for another year.

I got seven weeks off, not including national holidays. That was just in the winter. I would have gotten another month had I not taught summer classes. And apparently I didn't take all of my vacation (or perhaps it was sick days, I don't know) so I'm getting another 130,000 won. That was nice and unexpected.

I get four weeks off plus an additional two weeks that is not in the contract. We did have to fight for it though. In my opinion it makes the job more than bearable. Some of my friends are going through the "You still must coming into the office even though there's no school" rubbish right now...I still can't work that out.
