practicing and performing a mini-play.

I have put together a small 4-page skit for my conversation class. The skit is entitled Death of an English Teacher. In this story, I die at the beginning and my students must find out who killled me. It's filled with lots of funny moments. Once it is completed, I will place it on my website. Thus far, the girls (I have 9 girls in my conversation class and no boys) are flipping out; they absolutely love it. We should be filming next week.

Have you guys ever done something like this before? If so, please share your experience with me as I would love to get pointers.

Sounds like a really pro-active fun idea. I often film skits in my afternoon special classes...Ss learn better if they enjoy the activity and it's fun. I almost always make this a learning/task based activity and have the Ss do everything from conception to planning to script writing and film direction...I'm just there to answer questions and offer advice.

Yes.

My old school used to put on an end of semester and end of year performance every year.

They were normally very good. Completely student centered with the teachers only input being keeping them on task and correcting any mistakes. The odd helping hand when something needed doing.

For my 7-year olds at my school, we have an end-of-year play. Last year, we did Annie.

This year I'm writing a condensed (to 10 minutes) version of Lord of the Rings for the kids to play! We're even gonna have the other classes be our monster armies so we can fight it out!

Should be funny.
