After just returning from the classroom floor to find out if (a) there was dinner at the cafeteria today, (b) what time it is, and (c) what's on the menu it occured to me that without my students I wouldn't know how to function a good % of the time. They're often the ones from whom I end up finding out about class cancellations, shedule changes, unexpected holidays, school events, and use to translate personal business matters like at the bank or video shop.
Do you sometimes wonder where you'd be without such helpful students? |

My students often tell me about schedule changes and upcoming events. I was given an English Club activity thing, substituting for another teacher the rest of the term, and I walked into a room full of 1st through 5th graders, and I had to rely on the 5th grades to tell me why on earth thse 1st, 2nd, and 3rd graders were there (scheduling conflict, it turned out). And today I learned from my students that the homeroom teacher didn't bring them over for class because all the teachers thought I was going back to the US today. |

At school, not so much because my coteachers are usually forthcoming with information, and I learned really quickly that I need to ask what pertinent info was brought up at the weekly teachers' meeting.
Outside of school, I see my students everywhere I go (and I do mean everywhere), so they can often tell me which bus to take, what it is I'm about to buy in the supermarket, where to find cheaper beer, how much a taxi will cost to this destination, where that is, etc...but then I'm fairly new to Korea, so I'm guessing that'll wear off.
Still, some students helped me out at the movie theater.
and just kidding about the beer. |
