I'm taking a road trip and want to know if there's anything worth seeing in Asan. Are there any good bars, restaurants or expat hangouts?

A walk about through HyeonChoong Temple (only if bored). Fishing and/or peddle-your-own swan boat on Shinjeong Lake. Rock climbing across from said lake. Swimming in Grand Park Hotel's olympic-size (?) indoor pool or at the Asan City public pool (also O-size, indoor and next to Shinjeong Lake).

Watering holes in <downtown> Asan that ferners frequent...couldn't tell ya. However, just 7~10 drive from dt Asan is Soonchunhyang Univ. They've some obscene number of foreigners....40 teachers and maybe equal number of English speaking int'l students...in a town of 10 people. Maybe 5 core bars...you can't miss finding some friendly folk about. Maybe they'll chime in here...I think there about 7 posters from that uni post on here...

!shoosh,

Ryst

PS: Why Asan????????????????????????????????

Foreigner bar in Asan: Wa-bar.

Foreigner bar in Shinchang (Soohchunhyang University): EZS...but it's pretty dead now that everyone is on vacation. Try the week of 22-29.

Oeam (Korean pronunciation is We-am, don't know why the funky English spelling!) Folk Village is pretty nice.

The only expat hangout is downtown, usually at Wa Bar (or at least it used to be). Go to Dogo hotsprings or hang out at the Lee Soon Shin place (don't).

Actually stay away from Asan. This place is as boring as hell.

Sounds like you ARE looking for Shinchang! Just follow the signs toward Dogo/Yesan. The school is on your left coming from Asan.
