Would you do it? I currently work in a middle school but have had one university interview and two more waiting. Would you tell your school? I am on the standard public school contract so I can request a release with 30 days notice...
I don't want to be a weasel about this but kinda feel sneaky.
My gut says I should wait for an offer and then spill the beans, until then I should just stay quiet. I just feel sneaky and I don't like that... |

| I was reading some public school standard contracts and they state that no letter of release will be provided if you quit. Read your contract again to make sure. |

No. I was thinking of finding a school in the south of Seoul (closer to my GF) and mentioned it to my coworker. Eventually I decided the grass was probably greener on the other side and may as well stay with the devil I know (not a bad devil). Anyway, even thought I decided I was going to resign with my school, they "knew" about my plans and went through some sneaky hoops to try and get me to sign a new contract 2 months early.
But never, ever, ever tell your current employer (Korea or any place in the world for that matter) the exact new job you're going to. Even if you have a wonderful relationship, something about leaving the tribe can change attitudes very quickly. And I think at the end of the day, a Korean will give his/her loyalty to the boss/employer than you.
Also, you really own no employer any loyalty. Again, here or in Korea. The moment an employer doesn't need you, you're gone. All employers consider the bottom line. You owe them nothing more than thinking of your own bottom line. |

I suppose you are hiding something, but it's something that is not of your current employer's business until and unless you accept a new position.
My attitude is that if something is none of a person's business, you have no obligation to tell them. If it becomes their business, then tell them. |

What is your native language? Most Koreans can write English a lot better than they can speak it. If this is an example of the English you use at work then congratulations for fooling someone into hiring you to teach English. |

| Actually, standing up for this one, it seems to be a typo; "own" vs "owe". Other than that, it's fairly standard casual English. |

| I would wait until you know for sure if you are leaving, as long as you can still give them 30 days notice or whatever your contract says. Its not really her business and those kinds of things can really turn on you if you ended up staying at your current school. |

I wrote it at 8 am after waking up. Other than own/owe, what do you view as a great offense against the English language, oh Master? |

mindmetoo- A gf? YOU? Remember, we've met.
Plus, if you see nothing wrong with what you wrote, then maybe you need to go back to your "college" and get a refund. |

Sounds like good advice but sometimes the school WILL find out. Lets say you go from one public school to another. Its not difficult for the school to call GPOE or SMOE and say "XXXXX teacher at my school is going somewhere else. Do you know what school he is going to?"
If you are going from a public school to a job in the private sector then there's a good chance your school won't find out. |

Don't private message me again. I have no desire to enter into any private communications with you. Further attempts, I will follow it up with a moderator. I'm happy to communicate with you on the public forums and trade whatever barbs and insults you like in a public forum. |

I'm happy to take it on a public message board. I just don't want a creepy guy filling my message box with private messages I'm not going to read and now have to waste my time deleting. I think you should actually read what I wrote, oh master. |
