| Im having a difficult time figuring out what to do with my time here besides drinking and shopping. Does anyone have any suggestions for non-korean leisure activities? Cooking classes? Concerts? any suggestions? |

There are cool things to do here. I hike a lot in the hills and forest around my area. Just walk towards them, go along the sidewalk until you find a trail leading up, and disappear into gorgeous forests.
Also if you get the Seoul magazine in English from a bookstore, there is a lot of info on concerts and temple tours and parks and adventure things to do (all with transport info and costs) that will have you busily exploring. Also, most likely your Korean colleagues would love to spend time with someone who's interested in more than shopping and drinking and would be keen to have dinner with you maybe teach you to cook, show you around the area and hang out. Maybe you could invite them over, cook something yourself, and together plan some other activity. There are a lot of interesting things to do, you just have to be brave about the transport and plan a little. Also, www.adventurekorea.com does some interesting stuff. Enjoy!! |

Why not get drunk instead of just drinking? Ha ha, it's a joke.
Their are lots of things to do on weekends, but during weekday nights after work, you go home, take a walk locally, go shopping, and get on the internet.
You can take buses and trains places on the weekend, but it is confusing as hell at times though still worth the effort to try to explore and discover places that are very Asian.
I find that I need 3 day weekends to give me adequate time, but you only get 2 of those a year here, unlike in the west where you would get at least 10 a year in a teaching or other salaried position. Like 3 day weekends, vacation time is seriously lacking here.
I tend to keep as low a profile locally as a I can due to xenophobia, so I don't do much more than going to work and going to my room to get online so it is very isolating and I sure look forward to getting on a big jet plane for SEA. I would like to work out in a gym, but I know thats out of the question if you're not in an international oriented place like Seoul due to xenophobia. I feel you still can do anything you want if you're resistant to xenophobia, because it's not violent xenophobia nor hostile, just uncomfortable on an emotional level. |

Indeed...what would you do at home?
Answer that and try and do similar things here.
Or....
Go to movies
Go to museums
Go Hiking
Visit Korea on weekends
Go to parks
Go to national parks
Catch a baseball game
Catch a soccer match
Play soccer
Play baseball
Attend concerts or shows
Read
Play chess
Write
Go mountain biking
Go fishing
Study Korean
Take online courses
All of these seem to be available here.... |
