I am hoping for some advice or a resource to help me. My director has given me a couple ibt speaking classes for mid to high level middle school students in which I am supposed to ask the students questions, give them a 15 seconds to prepare and 45 seconds to respond. Then I point out what they did wrong and give some advice on how to do better. However, the boss wants me to give a short lecture each class on speaking and I have no idea what to teach. Correcting the students speech is easy but I am having trouble putting together a list of topics to lecture on. Any ideas? |

I've taught some IBT test prep. Brainstorming works well to prepare for the 45 second speech. Writing down key words you want to get across.
As far as lecturing on general points, focus on parts of speech, such as qualifiers, intensifiers, etc., as well as useful phrases- "In my opinion" "on the other hand" etc..
This website has helped me-

Teach them to form the 45 seconds as they would a paragraph- Topic sentence, supporting details, and conclusion.
45 seconds goes by very quickly when the student has a lot to say. |
