Hi all-

My middle school is having their finals all this week. Then there will be two more weeks of classes before summer vacation (I really don't understand that at all). I asked my co-teacher if the kids will still be paying attention in class after they take their finals and she said, "No. You will have a very hard time teaching any English for that time."

So what is something fun and painless that we can do in class? I plan on showing a video with simple comprehension questions for some classes, but the problem is the TV/ computer only works in about half of the classrooms, so video is out of the question. Does anyone have any suggestions that don't involve the internet or video? Something that's really fun and will hold their interest? I'd hate to have all that time wasted in class!

Board Games.

Another thing I've done in the past is copy a comic book story, and then erase the words in the speaking bubbles and then have the kids write their own stories. It's usually pretty hilarious what they end up writing.

I'm showing my HS students the pilot episode of Lost along with explanations and descriptions of the characters. If there's time I might show them the episode where the ajoshi goes around trying to make friends with his neatly arranged tray of seafood shit that no one else wants to eat.

I liked that scene too! Especially how he offered the food to everyone else but wouldn't let his wife have any!
