My friends and I have noticed, repeatedly (after a few days in Seoul and around Anyang), that the majority of Western men we see walking around Korea are above 6" tall.

Has anyone else noticed this trend? I'm only 5"11, my friends are 5"9 and 5"7. We've been tallying how many guys we've seen that were above 6" and its astonishing; we saw a friendly guy today who was almost "6.5...

Do some hagwons screen for tall teachers, or is my sense of reality a little skewed in this department? Has anyone noticed this?

We've literally been counting every Westerner we've seen. Its an 8/10 thing.

Oh no, I won't be special. I'm only 6'3" and I thought people would notice me. Guess not.

I know two teachers here who are over 2 meters (at least 6'7") but there are plenty of Smurfy guys around here too, don't worry.

People tend to notice taller people and are visually attracted to them.

In American presidential elections since the advent of television, the taller guy usually wins. Kerry's loss in 2004 was a rare exception.

This thread has surprised me because I have always thought the opposite. Maybe its being in the country but a lot of the guys here are small, like under 5'7. I agree with the person who says the tall ones are easier to see. A couple of times I have come a foul of a foriegner, not having seen them coming, because they just blend in with the crowd.

I've seen a few foreigners who are extremely tall, but actually the ones that stick out more to me are the very short one. I'm surprised how many 5'6" and below Americans I've met here. Whenever I'm in a big group of people from all countries the shortest one seems to always be American.

I'm 6'8" but is this post in accordance with "national *beep*-headed question week"?

-Well I remeber in St. Petersburg a chick got the subway taller than me...yes she was in flats(Always check, my mother is 6'1") so she must have been like 6'5". I was going to talk to her when her boyfriend got on. I changed my mind. He was 7 foot. Actually put his chin on the strap rail. Dude had to lower his shoulders to get in the door.
-But does Korea have women over 6 feet? Either native or teacher? I like em tall.

Well, historically the taller man has won in Presidential Elections. Its not about how tall you are. Its about how much money you can raise.
