I don't usually post, but I had a really nice experience the other night that lifted my spirits -- I just had to share it with you all.
My best mate's birthday just passed, so I had to go out for a drink in his honour. Perhaps absence really does make the heart grow fonder.
I started my search for his favourite beer, found it, and paid a ridiculous amount for a single bottle of what isn't even really good beer.
Disappointed, I began pottering around, stopping in different places every now and again for a solitary yet celebratory pint. I kept walking and walking, and eventually came upon a bar called The Aussie Shop. I told Tony, the best barman I've met, my reason for wandering into a bar on a weeknight.
Sympathetically, he apologized for not carrying that particular brand of beer. Then, he stopped and said, "Wait a minute, this may be your lucky day."
Apparently, someone whom he had helped had stopped in just a day or so earlier and gave him a bottle of beer in thanks. He rummaged around the back of the fridge and pulled out a bottle of my mate's favourite beer.
To top it all off, he didn't even charge me for the beer. "I can't sell a beer somebody gave me," quoth he. I proceeded to drink my beer, hang out and just thoroughly enjoy myself. I was so happy, that I should share a happy experience on this board, rather gripe, as seems to be the norm.
I can't give great directions, but there is a website that would have them: www.aussieshopkorea.com
I'm recommending this place to all and sundry, any who enjoy a relaxing evening and going home with a smile.
Cheers All! |

Not a big fan of the music(and i am Australian) that is played in there but the food is frigging good.... |

i went there. Tony has a lot of spirit but can be a little over bearing when you are trying to savour your $10 pie and beer experience...
The pie tasted awesome but one thing that got to me is that it was microwaved... They have those new microwaves that grill/bake at the same time I recon he should get one. |

I've only been there one time and Tony was very nice and accommodating. He used to play in an Aussie band and had played a few times at an old stomping ground of mine so we had a bit of a chat. The meat pie and sausage roll along with the block of Cadbury's chocolate, did the trick. His friendliness and the Aussie fare made me miss home. I plan to go back to go and try the Fish n' Chips next time polished down with a couple of Aussie brews. |

For anyone interested, here's the web address of the Aussie Shop. I think it's a great accomplishment to open up a shop by yourself in a foreign country especially one with as restrictive laws as this one. Those who haven't tried Aussie food before, give it a go and support a fellow foreigner in his business endeavor.
Whoops, didn't notice the OP had also included the web address. |

Pies aren't suppose to be cooked in a microwave oven though I do my pies this way if I'm in a hurry for a quick bite (defrost and then high heat). I tend to heat them up too soft. |

The place is an utter rip-off. Crap microwave-nuked pies, sh1tty sausage rolls, mad expensive - my advice? Go to Australia, South Africa, or New Zealand for real pies and what-not.
I realize that the guy thinks his stuff is the bees-knees, but man, for the price and all, it is shebeen material. Your best bet is to support the Middle-Eastern restaurants there I say - hard workers and good grub well worth your hard-earned dosh. |

I went there the other weekend. Had the fish n' chips - chips were good, and he used real Sarson's vinegar, but the fish could be better. Still looking for a whole battered fish rather than just four 'c.ocktails'. The guy is very friendly and will take on any advice you give him as he's only been open for a month. If you're looking to quietly enjoy your food/drink, you won't get it, but if you're feeling like a chat he'll certainly give you one. |
