Hey,
I'm curious, what is the rock music scene like in Korea? Specifically Seoul. Actually I'm more into Metal and hardcore, but anything that rocks might have to do.
Thanks. |

I'm assuming by hardcore you mean 1980's-1990 punk.
The closest you'll find is Soo Ta Gi. Korea is dominated by pop cock rock.
There's a bar in Iteawon on hooker hill that caters to Heavy Metal fans and has slam dancing. Its in the same building as a Thai food restaurant called "Bangkok". Hooker Hill is the hill with all the girly bars. The bar used to call itself The Heavy Metal club although it has changed its name.
Make sure you find the Thai restaurant on hooker hill. There are many other Thai Retaurants in Iteawon but only one metal bar. If you still can't find it ask a G.I. |

hongdae has a great live music scene, and you'll definitely be able to find some hardcore, punk, and some metal too. check out skunk hell, minor league, dgbd, or club spot for shows. you can get show info at www.myspace.com/koreanpunks

Yeah that's what you would assume about Korea if you've never left Itaewon. In fact, Korea has an amazing underground music scene, and an excellent punk scene. My friends are in an awesome hardcore band called Johnny Royal, and they cover lots of songs by Suicidal Tendencies, Sick of it All, and H2O just to give you an idea of what the scene is like. By the way, it's all located in Hongdae, of course. |

You lose. Korea has a great hardcore scene with some of the best bands around.
Old school hardcore:
13 Steps
Captain Bootbois
New school hardcore:
the Geeks
Things We Say
Breaking Ground
Join the Circle
Metalcore:
Samchung
Vassline
Knockdown
Unleashed Anger
Screamo:
49 Morphines
Hollow Jan
Stuff I can't define:
Re-Animator
Johnny Royal
Firestorm
Nahu
Today X Spot
Vicious Nerds
And this list would triple in size if you wanted me to include straight-up punk bands.
Albazalba is right and Johnny Royal kicks ass (saw them this weekend), and Rockstarsmooth has given you the path you should get on to find out about shows. I'll also mention the Korean punk message board, http://www.brokeinkorea.proboards46.com, now without anti-Muslim racism for 1 days. |

RT, A few weeks back, I think it was to celebrate the coming (not opening) of the Hard Rock Cafe in Itaewon, there was a pretty heavy Korean 3 piece band, they had a heavy distortion metal / rap feel. They really rocked the whole place out. Know who they were? |

You'd have to be way more specific than that, but chances are I don't know them. |
