Hi everyone,

I will be staying in Victoria, June 25th-30 and I was hoping for some suggestions on things to see and best cafes, pubs etc, nothing too exciting, I am mostly going to relax and unwind before summer school starts. I already have my plane tickets and hotel.

Thanks in advance,

Duke

Victoria is home to me!

There's the Buschart gardens which are nice when they do the fireworks at night in the summer. Walking along Beach Drive and Cattle Point. The Inner harbour and downtown in the evening with all the street performers. Irish Times can be a nice pub and it's just up from the Inner Harbour. Christies Carraige House is my favorite but it's mucho laid back, some greay microbrews to be found there.

Let me know if you need anything else.

High tea at the Empress Hotel is a noteworthy experience fit for a queen/king.

Rent a car and head up the coast towards Sooke. Rent a kayak and cruise around. Then do a bit of hiking on the Juan De Fuca trail.

Also, the whale watching tour was one of the coolest things I have ever done.

Yeah, it's a great trip.
If you have more time, a drive up the coast to Nanaimo, then west to Tofino is even better.

Victoria's a great city, I lived there for 4 years and would love to go back.

The best place for breakfast is John's Place on Pandora Ave, or the Blue Fox Cafe on Fort Street.

There's some really good lunch and dinner places that less of the tourists know about. Ferris's Oyster Bar at the bottom of Yates Street has great seafood, and is cheaper and has way better atmosphere than Chandler's or the Wharf Street Eatery where most hotels/tourist places will send you.

Paggliachi's on Broad Street (by Eaton's Centre Mall on Douglas) has great Italian food, and JJ's restaurant (not the exact name, but close) on Fort Street has really good chinese.

If you're looking for coffee, head to Cook Street Village and there's the Moka House and Starbucks, just blocks from the ocean and a block from Beacon Hill Park, whcih is definitely worthy of checking out. Be sure to go for a walk by the ocean as it's gorgeous there, and you have a great view of the mountains in Washington.

For shopping, in addition to the local toursit traps on Government Street, be sure to go to the bottom of Johnson street and also to the market/square they have there. THere's lots of interesting shops.

And of course, all the touristy things are fun as well. There's a tourist centre at the Inner Harbour that will point you to the Wax Museum, Parliament Builidings (a little known fact that in BC our legislature is actually know as the Parliament Buildings) and the undersea gardens. They can also give you a map and point out the locations of all the places I've just given you.

Have fun, it's a great city with lots of interesting things to do!

Greetings,

Thank you for all the suggestions, I appreciate it, very kind of you all.

I have one question, I am hoping there is a good grocery or market where I can get some good food and produce. I was looking at my tourista map and Johnson street has the market/square(Sunshine you mentioned this). I have some health issues and can't be eating typical restaurant food at every meal, age is catching up with me.

Thanks everyone and I am really looking forward to a few days of relaxation.

If you are staying down by the inner harbor then there is the Thrify Grocery store about 4 blocks behind the Legislature building. It is a largish grocery store.

If you are staying farther up Douglas then just head to the mall.

For eating I can highly reccomend Willie's Bakery. Not a tourist place but beloved by locals for its lunch. Sandwiches on freshly baked bread or grab a coffee in their outdoor courtyard. It's up by Chinatown.

Camille's is a great place for fresh, west coast food. They get all their stuff from local grown sources or grow it theirself.

The Gatsby is right on the water and while a little over priced and touristy, little beats having breakfast on their porch in the early morning sun.

I had a very nice time in Victoria, thanks for all the tips. The last day I took a walk over to Beacon Hill Park and enjoyed it. On the corner of Quadra and Yates there is a nice grocery store as well.

Thanks for all the replys.
