take a look at this:
I prefer coffee than tea
I prefer coffee over tea
I prefer coffee rather than tea
Now: I prefer coffee to tea
I was wondering if that last sentence is correct. I never heard "to" in that sense. If someone could enlighten me I'd appreciate it...it's bugging the hell out of me. |

No enlightenment needed. Just get your ears cleaned Maybe it's that which is bugging you.

I would only say that in response to the question, "Do you prefer coffee or tea?"
Don't know any grammar rules, but it is a common sentence structure. |

Of your four sentences, the first one is the only one that is not correct. Of course, they need periods. |

I use the structure of the fourth sentence all the time. "I prefer X to Y" is more common around here than the first two sentences. |
