take a look at this:

I prefer coffee than tea
I prefer coffee over tea
I prefer coffee rather than tea

Now: I prefer coffee to tea

I was wondering if that last sentence is correct. I never heard "to" in that sense. If someone could enlighten me I'd appreciate it...it's bugging the hell out of me.

Of your four sentences, the first one is the only one that is not correct. Of course, they need periods.

yeah that first sentence is incorrect. it was pretty late at night.

I use the structure of the fourth sentence all the time. "I prefer X to Y" is more common around here than the first two sentences.
