I've only ever been paid in cash here. And when I've flown out of Incheon, it's never been a problem to exchange whatever amount of it for travellers cheques or a different currency. |

Don't be such a tight bugger, take the commision fee on the nose, maybe pretend it's get the hell outta dodge tax- and split, in 2 months time you'll you'll still have your cash and will have forgotten about the 50 quid or whatever you dropped on the way out. |

If you have an account in the UK then you don't need a bank account in Korea to wire the money home. Just give them the account details and it will get to the UK in 2 - 3 days with Gookmin Bank. They charge a flat rate of 12,000 won irrespective of how much you send. |

You've got to be one of the stupidest people that's ever posted on this board, and that's saying a lot! Look at your recent posts!
You arrived here two months ago:

But then you wanted to join your friend, so you did a runner:

But, after 30 days you wanted to rip them off by staying in Japan when you're supposed to do a visa run!

I am supposed to be going to JAPAN (osaka) on a visa run on tuesday - is it easy to get a job in OSAKA or is it better to stay in Korea as you get accommodation here. |
That was two weeks ago, so I guess you didn't stay in Japan. But, you want to do a runner still, eh?
I think you said it best on July 21st when you said:

Uh, yeah. Besides all the above identifying info, you also posted your hometown and home phone number, as well as and your age (one of the e-mail addresses you posted has "81" in it). Hell, you even said the date you were planning to run!

Yeah, I think you'll have a pretty tough time, Moul. |

Actually Moul you seem to be exactly the sort of jerk the teaching profession could do without. Its "teachers" like you who give the rest a bad name- chopping and changing jobs to be nearer your mate, running home to mummy when your big oriental adventure got boring.
Admittedly I was the same at the age of 20, which I guess you are, but at least I gave due notice when I wanted to move on to something new. |

Seth Gecko,
thats a pretty good character deconstruction. How long did it take?? I'm with you.. moul has to be one of the most stupedest people here.
By the way I changed $4 000 australian at the airport and they never blinked an eyelid. That was a pretty stu[id amount of money to change as I was carrying a lot of won. |

Took almost a half hour, I think! Talk about having time on your hands, eh ? No, I was just pissed off because I remembered a couple of his earlier posts, and I'm still pissed off about a teacher running from my school. The teacher borrowed money from a couple of people (me included!) and then took off because of "personal reasons"!
As for this:

Yeah, Moul PM'd the same thing to me. Said his mom died. My thoughts are:
1. If she's passed away, he still shouldn't do a runner.
2. Did she pass away two weeks ago when he wanted to screw the school and stay in Osaka when doing his visa run?!
flamebait deleted by Lemon 11:49pm Sunday. Oh- and one can assume that if a poster sends a PM to you, they'd like it kept private. It's not ammo for you to score points with. |

So genuine he had to wait a week, so genuine that he has to ensure he gets paid, and so genuine that it's a secret that no one must know when and why he is leaving? |

Come on...him mom died!
How many times has she conveniently died you have to wonder....
I have to agree with Seth here...Moul you are the poster child for what person Korean schools should NOT hire.
In fact you also stain most westerners that work in Korea with your selfish and totally immature attitude.
As for me, I do think you will run and get clean off but I hope something catches up with you one day so you have to face the consequences of your actions. |

I've heard more from old moulah since then. As he's running out I suggested that at least he find a replacement teacher. I'm looking for a job at the mo so I suggested he hook me up with the school. At least they would have an option then, right? Or I could even do a couple months stand - in, presumably until they found their preferred american..
But no reply from Moul at all! Obviously he'd rather just run without a word to them. They must really be bad managers by his description, but I doubt it somehow... |

Back off .. if the guy wants to leave good riddins....this is a disscussion forum not a moral AA meeting. Who are you to judge? So what if he gives teachers a bad name, there are plenty of bosses who are screwing teachers over so i say do what you have to do! Moul you run baby....run forest run..the best way is Gwang ju boys way transfer, just make sure you have the swift code of your brit account and it will cost you more for 2M maybe 17000 or 2400 but the transfer rates are better than cash exchage rates so you don't loose so much. |

Back to the OP's question:
If you really needed to, you could just take out the won. Unlike five years ago, the won is now fully convertable worldwide - is ratslash points out, they're even converting it in Halifax (I saw that too, last summer).
Travellers cheques are also an option. As is wiring it, though if you're like me you might take comfort in actually carrying the money with you.
Another possibility is to stick it in a Kookmin accout, and have them give you an International card. Worked well for me last year in Canada, and last month in Thailand. Should be easily accessable in the UK. |
