I don't want my little kitty to be up for adoption; but apparently my school is having trouble finding an airline that will carry her. The only one that will seems to be quite a bit more expensive than the others and i will have to cover the differance. Now i will be comming back to Korea in like 6 months, but thats to long for me to feel comfotrable leaving her. I dont want my Kitten to und up with many parents.
Sigh...is there some way i can send her cheaply (for less than $300, cheaper is better so long as it doesnt freak her out). She has all her shots, but she does need to be fixed.
On a related note, where can i have her fixed cheaply? (my vety wants $500 and he says he needs to keep the cat for a week, WTF??)
Thanks for any help...if i dont get this sorted soon she may be up for adoption. |

Tell your school to look harder. What airline wouldn't transport a kitten? I suspect your new employers are either lying because they don't want you to bring a cat, or they're too lazy to check so they're giving you the easy answer.
I got my cat spayed at a vet and I'm pretty sure it was less than $100, and she went home with us that day. There are some vets in Korea that are a lot better than others. One vet we went to said we need to get our cats haircuts every month, and another vet said our cats need monthly injections. The ones we go to are great and never rip us off. |

I posted a link about Air Canada in the travel forum. I think it might be on the first page....In any case, Air Canada will no longer allow animals on their flights...the only exception being cargo planes. Someone else replied and stated that this doesn't go into effect till July 15th or so.
I just thought I'd mention that...Also I had a friend who sent her dog solo to America and it costed $800 I believe.
Best of luck! |

| From what I've seen, most Koreans aren't very fond of cats. |

Is your cat male or female? If it's a male, they can usually go home the same day. A female usually needs one night at the vets, since it's a more invasive procedure (that's how it's done in Canada anyway). A week is excessive.
Good luck! |

If you're sure you're coming back in six months, maybe she'd be better off in a foster home rather than having to be flown around the world twice? I can see why you don't want to leave her, of course ... but if you really have to, I think foster care would be preferable to adoption.
If your kitty was rescued, maybe KARA/Arumpoom could help you get her spayed at a reasonable price? Try www.withanimal.net or www.lonelylifetime.com, or try asking someone how to contact the Jamsil (잠실) Animal Hospital. The vet there seems reasonable, and she might be able to help you.
I hope everything turns out OK. |

My school is lying me home, not to Korea. My kitten was a little fuzz ball when i stole her from her mommy, and boy did she bite te crap outta me when she was little.
I will follow the links to see whats up, my vet has been good and he has done all of Molly's shots for her but i think he doesn't have experiance nutering a female cat; (thats why he wants so much money and to keep her for a week).
I think i will just have the opperation done at home so long as i can get her there. If not, then getting her fixed will help find her a home i think.
Thanks for the suggestions! |

If you got the cat here, it makes sense you should pay to ship her home. And if you are only going away for a few months, maybe she should stay here with someone you trust.
I almost named my cat Molly, but after a reggae song, not Flogging Molly; too many people here are obsessed with them. |

| Molly is beautiful! You should have her spayed as soon as possible ... I'm sure the vet at Jamsil has plenty of experience, and I can't see her charging anywhere near 500,000 won. My foster dog (also a girl) went home the same day. |

| Pet ownership is a long term responsibility. Why did you get a small pet when your life was in such transition? |

I want to take her home with me, then back to Korea in 6 months. I would not like to give her up for adoption. But i am also unwilling to pay outragious money for the little fluffer; so im looking for the best solution.
If you want to attack me then do so with PM's so i can speak my mind freely to you. |

Hi. It's great that you're intent on keeping your cat. I've flown with my cat once and, to be honest, it took him over a year to get over the shock of flying and to become accustomed to his new house. A friend took her cat home over 6 months ago and it's still getting over it. Maybe these are isolated cases but it's worth considering leaving your cat with someone here until you get back.
Good luck with whatever you choose. |

So you place a monetary value on this cat's happiness? |

Dear Unhelpful idiot with the skanky K-girl avatar,
I asked you to please use pm's if you felt further personal attacks were needed. I have a problem and I am looking for a solution. I would blow a grand on Molly's well being, but I would rather not. Now since you continue to post useless attacks at me in my thread after I have offered to entertain your foolishness in private messages I can only assume you are one of the lonly souls on this forum that thrives on attention. I would prefer you go get your "look at me" fix somewhere else, maybe even start your own thread. I will happily stay out of it.
I found a service that will ship her as fright but the cost is a bit high still. $540 to JFK and i would have to drive down there to pick her up or $630 to halifax and my girlfriends family could get her.
Anyone know of any cheaper methods? |
