This is probably a really dumb question but would I be right in assuming that the immigration office at the airport will not be closed over Chusok...?
Hate to get there and find out I can't organize a re-entry visa. And no it's not practical to go to the Seoul office and get one in advance.

assumption my dear is the mother of all puckups. Even if you call don't assume that the information is right. Go to immigration and get it sorted out now.

I went to the immigration office at Incheon during Chuseok two years ago. It's always best to check but I would imagine that it'll be open.

I did get the guys at the tourist info to phone immigration today but there was confusion all around about what I wanted done. I said I needed to have my visa changed so I can leave and come back and the woman translated, got off the phone and was all like "Oh I'm sorry - they cannot help you with this. They are only open over Chuseok to do basic things such as re-entry permits." So I think that was a positive answer.
But I'll get my boss to call on Monday anyhow and double check.

Look at it this way

If there were no one manning the desks during chu-seok, then every person who arrives in the country during that time would be here illegally. Theyd be stampless.... Or being forced to sit at the airport for three days until the immigration guys all came back to work.

What the deal is as far as I can see is there's always going to be immigration staff there. Otherwise they'd have to close the airport. But to get the re-entry stuff done you have to go to a specific immigration office in the airport that handles some fairly limited functions. You've gotta figure that all unnecessary staff are going to be sent home for the holiday and if some fool up in head office decides that it's unnecessary to keep staff on to issue re-entry permits to foreigners (such as myself) who are either too lazy or too stupid to drag their ass up to Mokdong to get it done before then it's a case if tough titties. I think it's okay but I'm still going to check on Monday otherwise I have to race in to Seoul immigration Tues AM.

Do you have a multiply entry visa?

You should be able to just flash it to the regular immgration guy when you reenter.

Nah just a single entry. And as tempting as it'd be sometimes to just say "No" when the immigration guy asks me if I'm coming back I actually don't mind my job at the moment.
