.
Erhm... speaking of fairly irrelevant but potentially useful things to do with living in Korea, as we were ...

* * * * *

1.) [Use the poll]

Have you ever used the free-phone English language tourism information service?

(Dial your area code, and then 1330.)

If so, in which part of Korea were you then ... or more to the point, where was the person who responded, and, how was the service?

* * * * *

The reason I ask is because I've lived in four different parts of the country now... and the person who answers the phone in Daegu is fantastic: always cheerful and in a genuine sounding way, always ready to find you the answer to strange questions about the city immediately, or find out and call back quickly.

I reckon that one staff person is one of the best things about the whole city, and I say that from having recently lived in two other cities with less helpful staff.

(I'd love to nominate the Daegu English language phone service for some sort of a vote of thanks for great service, although I'm unsure what that would be like. A press release? A direct communication ie. phone, email, life-time free membership with Dave's ...? Any better ideas?)

2.) [leave comments/ make a vote]

But, have you phoned to someone in the information service somewhere else, and found someone who was possibly better, or consistently more helpful and polite?

What have been your experiences using 1330, and where?

Seriously...this service rocks. Combine it with the Lonely Planet and you have all you need to travel anywhere in Korea. I usually use the phone if I'm stuck in a jam and need some translation or something.
